We’d like to invite you along to an open morning on Saturday 4th August at Pennard Library. Drop in any time between 10.30 and 12.30. We’re celebrating the work of FoPL and the City and County of Swansea in refurbishing the library. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

This Saturday marked the official start of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge at libraries across England and Wales.
Last year’s reach was huge, with a total of 761,758 children taking part in the Challenge in the UK, and 97% of local authorities. We also spread the joy of reading internationally with a total of 18,400 children participating through the British Council and the armed forces.
This year we’re heading to Beano Town for Mischief Makers and children across the country will be collecting clues this summer to guide them to a treasure. There’s also the chance of getting your portrait drawn in the style of a Beano cartoon through entering ourcompetition. We know that the Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to encourage children to read during the holidays, and we also know how powerful it is when they see their parents enjoying a book too. So, while your child is heading to Beano Town in search of treasure, why not take the opportunity to borrow a book as well: we would recommend trying one of our Quick Reads.
New materials for the next year of our Reading Ahead programme are also now available in our online shop with early bird discount. Reading Ahead supports young people and adults by changing their perception of reading, opening up opportunities and building their confidence. The scheme has reached over 275,000 people since it began. Get your organisation to sign up to start in September!
